The annual 2025 Taichung Bike Week, Asia's most influential bicycle industry exhibition, runs from September 16 to 19 across multiple venues including the Evergreen Laurel Hotel Taichung, The Splendor Hotel Taichung, and the Tempus Hotel Taichung. The event gathers 316 exhibitors, featuring renowned local component manufacturers such as Taiwan Industrial (Taiwan), KMC, Kun Teng, Jin Sheng Yuan, Jiuchuan, and more, showcasing their latest bicycle products and technologies.

During the exhibition, the Taichung Industrial Development and Investment Promotion Council (IDC) integrates tourism with sustainability by promoting the “Let’s Ride” city cycling app. Global buyers visiting the show are encouraged not only to source bicycle components but also to experience Taichung’s unique charm through green mobility.

Huang Yu-shan, Secretary-General of IDC, emphasized that Taichung is a global hub for high-end bicycle production and R&D. Mayor Lu Shu-yen has actively advanced the “Front-Store, Back-Factory Free Port” economic policy to elevate Taichung’s industries internationally. The highly anticipated Taichung International Convention Center, set to officially open by the end of this year, is expected to host numerous large-scale international exhibitions.

Beyond trade exhibitions, IDC highlights sustainability and low-carbon tourism by collaborating with the Industrial Story Museum Development Association and Citizen Sustainability to promote the “National Carbon Savings” personal carbon passbook, integrated with the “Let’s Ride” app.

This initiative combines Taichung’s extensive cycling routes with local industry and culture. Through navigation functions and four pre-planned experience routes, visitors can explore the city by bike—discovering tourist factories, specialty shopping districts, and cultural landmarks along the way.

Chou Hsin-hung, Chairman of the Industrial Story Museum Development Association, explained that during Bike Week, the “Let’s Ride” app incorporates sustainable tourism concepts with the “National Carbon Savings” passbook. Participants who complete designated routes can redeem rewards such as sports towels, while simultaneously earning carbon mileage points.

These points are redeemable for discounts or products, creating a “ride-and-reward” cycle that transforms cycling into a way of exploring the city and supporting local businesses.

Lin Xiang-xu, CEO of Citizen Sustainability, added that the “National Carbon Savings” program is Taiwan’s first personal carbon passbook platform. Using patented technology, it records citizens’ sustainable actions—such as using reusable cups, taking public transportation, riding shared bikes, and joining environmental activities—converting them into quantifiable carbon reduction data. These records can be used for rewards and also provide valuable ESG references for corporate sustainability management.

Legislative Yuan Vice President Jiang Chi-chen noted that Taichung, as a global hub for high-end bicycle production, should attract more international brands and cycling enthusiasts to exchange and collaborate. With 93 cycling routes spanning over 780 kilometers, the most among Taiwan’s six major cities, Taichung aims to solidify its position as an international cycling capital.

Legislator Liao Wei-xiang highlighted that under Mayor Lu’s leadership, the “iBike Doubling Plan” has expanded YouBike stations to more than 1,600, transforming Taichung into a truly bicycle-friendly city. Beyond economic benefits, the bicycle industry links with ESG initiatives, carbon credits, tourism, and leisure sports, creating jobs and exhibition opportunities. Facing challenges such as U.S. reciprocal tariffs and exchange rate fluctuations, he emphasized the need for both short-term support and mid-to-long-term transformation policies to ensure sustainable trade.

Bai Cheng-chung, Chairman of Taiwan Industrial Co., Ltd., a leading global supplier of bicycle pedals and saddles, and concurrently Chairman of the Bicycle & Health Tech R&D Center, stated that Taichung Bike Week remains the industry’s most important B2B trade event. It provides a direct exchange platform for OEM suppliers, bicycle manufacturers, product managers, and global buyers, serving as the key venue for negotiating next year’s new bike specifications. This year, the event is expected to attract over 1,000 domestic and international buyers for business discussions and collaborations.
