Next 3 Years Critical for Taiwan's EV Industry: TAITRA

2021/01/15 | By CENS

As the world ushered in the electric vehicle era, governments worldwide had rolled out regulations easing out fuel-powered vehicles. The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), seeing the possibilities in the industry, has named the year 2035 as the benchmark for Taiwan's EV market and announced that they would host the "2035 E-Mobility, Taiwan" fair this October. The fair would concentrate on EV and self-driving vehicles.

At the press conference announcing the upcoming expo, TAITRA Chairman James Huang said the next three years would be the most critical juncture for Taiwan's EV industry. He added that the 2035 E-Mobility fair aims to connect Taiwan's innovative teams, companies, global investors, and companies. Show organizers have also reached out to one of Taiwan's leading EV promoters, Hong Hai, and received a positive answer from them, signaling a possible attendance.

Specific dates and its location are slated for Oct. 20 to 22 at the Nangang Exhibition Center Hall 2, focusing on four concepts: Move, Connect, Interaction, and Share.

The automotive industry is experiencing the biggest revolution in the past century, as seen in how the majority of global auto companies are entering the EV bandwagon in an attempt to make the transition into rolling out EV and self-driving concepts. Taiwan's communications and cellphone providers are also leveraging their advanced technologies know-how for further vertical integration of resources. Huang said the expo would aim to integrate solutions for the three electric systems, IOV, 5G, security safety, car entertainment systems, human-vehicle communications software, and co-sharing platforms.

Aside from the expo, Huang said TAITRA would also be hosting the E-Mobility Demo Day. They would invite global companies to offer a problem and have Taiwan's innovative teams, companies, and universities to brainstorm a solution. Notable teams would win prize money and an opportunity to exhibit at the E-Mobility fair at no expense.

Hong Hai's announcement of the MIH EV Open-Source Platform last year saw overall positive support from both domestic and global firms. Huang said they've broached both the expo and demo day to Hong Hai, which was well-received, laying down the groundwork for collaboration with an industry giant and leverage the domestic industry in the next three years.
